I was an Avid pro when I bought FCP back in 2001. Editing is pretty much the same on all NLEs, no matter what the marketing hacks would have you believe, and so I didn't need any conceptual instruction...just needed to know what keys did what. I learned most of what I needed to know using contextual menus.
2) Take continuing educational classes. I always urge younger, less experienced editors to spend as much as they can taking specialty classes, Apple training, etc. What I like about classes I've taken is that I get out of my routines of how I do things, and am exposed to new (and sometimes, better) ways of accomplishing tasks.
